Hunting the spy
This award winning animation, tells the story of Behnam Mohammadi, the brave 13 years old Iranian boy who arrested a spy in the early days of Iran - Iraq war. In this work, I was in charge of designing the environment, modeling the buildings (in modo), painting the textures (in modo & photoshop), rendering the scene (in modo), look development and compositing (in nuke). characters were modeled and animated in maya by other members of the team and I added textures to them, later inside modo, using it's built-in painting and baking features, havily.
The main technical achievement in this project was developing a system for the transfering of Behnam's hair from maya to modo. His hair was modeled and animated using maya's dynamic features, and we needed to transfer them to modo, for final rendering. On those days, there were no good tools available for transfering spline between maya and modo, and the only way available to us for transfering the animation data from maya to modo, was through mdd files. So I made some MEL scripts for maya and some python scripts for modo to transfer both the model and it's point position on each frame to maya, using our available mdd workflow.
Another techincal achievement, was developing a network rendring system for modo. The lack of a powerful network rendering system for modo, in those days, forced me to develop one: I made scripts to distribute frames on the network in a fashion which met our need. This system was used later in all other projects and was even extended for nuke.
